Thanks for posting! That said, sorry but....wrong. I think you're forgetting or ignoring one crucial aspect of mass. And that is: the fulcrum or lever affect.

Yes - the absolute weight differences between the iPad 2 and New iPad are minor. When held say flat on an open palm with the device more or less centered on my hand, the difference is much harder to detect.

However, that's not how I, or anyone else, holds an iPad in general use. For my part, I hold it in my left hand (only) in the lower left corner. And that's whether in portrait or landscape. That means that the overall mass spreads out away from my hand by nearly a foot in the longest dimension. That mathematically/physically (and literally) amplifies the effect that those "few" grams have on the perceived weight. And I can tell the difference - when held this way, which is the way I hold it in general use - every single time.

The difference is obvious in this regard, believe me. I know because we still have my old iPad 2 in the house hold. Again, I can tell the difference with my eyes closed every single time.

Thanks for posting. I probably would've gone with Verizon had I not been grandfathered. And even then I considered it. Grandfathered accounts sell for a ton of $$. You're not supposed to do it but people do. And I figure sooner or later AT&T will turn off the spigot and force me into a metered plan. Such is life!

I can make you a bet. I do not care how good your muscle memory is, the reason you feel it heavier is because you were told by Apple that it was heavier.
The difference between the iPad 2 and the new iPad in weight is so minute that if you show them to normal people not aware of the very small (go look how many milligrams it was) weight difference, they could not tell.
I have also an 8.9" Galaxy Tab. Now, that you can tell that it is much lighter and thinner than the iPad. It is a smaller device.

Good review and insights on iPad use.

I've gone from the original, to the iPad 2 and now my third iPad also. My first impression was also the increased weight. You're right that muscle mermory was accustom to the stealthiness of the 2, so this was a bigger change than I expected. For me the screen did not blow me away. Perhaps I was expecting the awe like the first time I saw an HD tv. However, as time goes by, I'm appreciating it more and more. Text is sublime. Photos were stunning before and only seem better if you can compare the newest with the older.

I got Verizon instead of At&T but may swap it before the two week return period ends. LTE is really amazing tho. Perhaps too nice. It's faster than my home wifi. I dont have unlimited data and I blew through 1GB of data in a single day. None of the rate plans provide that much consumption in a month. I still do on my At&T iPhone, but I lost it on my iPad 2 when I turned it off for a few months.

Wow I'd never heard of Dimmer. I am able to read at night with my nightstand light on, so the built in dimmer goes dim enough for me, but I can see how it wouldn't if I had to be in an otherwise dark room (my kids have thankfully grown past that stage - good luck to you!!)

Bummer about your wifi and router. Can't help but assume you don't have an apple airport. I know they're not cheap but man they seem to "just work" in my experience. Still, or either way, I wonder if the wifi issue is somehow related to the JB? Did you have this issue in stock mode?

I never got to play with iFiles - that was going to be 'next' after I got things settled with my JB, which I obviously never did!

I use my iPad a lot in the middle of the night (feeding a baby) and I don't know how I got along without Dimmer. The default brightness controls don't go nearly dark enough. Also, my iPad and my wireless router don't always get along, meaning I have to toggle my wifi off/on to get it working sometimes. Before getting sbsettings+activator, I had to go into settings every time. Now, I swipe my taskbar and tap the toggle twice and it's all fixed. I also love BrowserChanger, since my main browser is atomic rather than safari - it's finally my default when clicking links in other apps. And the filesystem access through iFile has proven invaluable several times.

Thanks for the thoughts and for posting. Glad it's working well for you. Wondering...what are the primary tweaks or JB apps you use that you consider most important? Thanks!

I've had my iPad jailbroken since the original iPad 2 jb was released this summer. I waited to upgrade to iOS 5 until the new JB was released. I would say that 95%+ of the time, it still just works - and for me, works much better than an unjailbroken iPad (which I had for a couple days between upgrading and re-JBing). I've only once had a real problem, and that was solved by uninstalling the most recent tweak I'd installed.

I'm not trying to convince you to rejailbreak - if stock works for you, great. But I can honestly say that jailbreaking has NOT required me to give up my iPad "just working."

Thanks for posting Matt. Sorry to say I don't exactly understand the nature of your question regarding the meta data. What exactly do you want to accomplish in so doing? One of my hopes for the iPad 3 is a 128GB capacity, making cloud/sync management less of an issue. I'd still have to choose what to and not to have on my iPad, but it'd be less of a chore.

Thanks for posting. And I very much agree. In fact as I was going through the JB process on the iPad I kept thinking that I'd get more benefit from having some of that stuff on my iPhone. Thing is, I also need my phone to "just work" as it is mission critical to me. It's my sole work number and I need 100% up time...

The good news is that Apple seems to continually coopt the best JB ideas into iOS over time!
