Gizmodo posted an interesting report from a coffee shop in NYC that currently has a no-laptop policy.
The coffeeshop/laptop culture is obviously pretty popular, but it definitely leaves a place feeling a little sterile. Cafe Grumpy’s no-laptop policy is a successful attempt at countering this effect. The place is lively and energetic.
When asked about the iPad, Grumpy’s owner Caroline Bell said that based on what she knew of the iPad – in particular that it doesn’t create a physical barrier b/t you and the rest of the world – that she would allow them in the shop. (At least for now!)
I like this take, and I think SJ would too.
