Media content: Whither Fox? And…what else really matters?

At this point, either officially or unofficially we have CBS, NBC, and ABC. We also have CNN and Netflix among others. Rumors surrounding Hulu are growing by the day it seems, and generally speaking it’s hard to imagine that we won’t get it sooner or later, even if for-pay only. Same with Colbert and Stewart.

So . . . where’s Fox in all this? Rupert Murdoch himself was quoted saying that “All media will be on the iPad.” So it’s a pretty safe bet that we’ll get an announcement, maybe even soon.

Combine all the above with Youtube and . . . . what else is left? I mean seriously. Is this not 9x% of what people watch online? Is there anything with material viewership not on this list? Maybe some cable nets which may/may not have their shows on Hulu – HBO, Showtime, AMC? Mostly they’re on Hulu. Or iTunes if you don’t mind being a season behind. But i think it’s safe to say that even they are scrambling either to go HTML5 via website or develop their own apps.

And look if you wan’t to get crazy and add Sling into the mix, then it’s 100% if you own the hardware πŸ™‚

There are still some important unanswered questions about email searching/folders, and file system integration/user experience with cloud services. And the no-built in printing thing smarts a little bit. But on the whole I’m feeling really good about this.

In general, I have a feeling that my big picture predictions may come even sooner than some of my rosiest estimates…

    I’m going to say what no one else has the guts to say.

    Flash = Porn

    That’s why everyone is concerned about the lack of flash. There…I said it.

    I am really also excited about the great announcements by the media companies. Basically all the video services I need to watch videos are on the App Store. I am really happy about the Netflix app. The wait for my 3G iPad is getting longer. Apple needs to announce a date already.

      Agreed! As I mentioned in another comment – the one silver lining about waiting for the 3G model is that the wifi folks will be testing all the apps for us πŸ™‚
